MEET JAMES

Listening. Leading. Delivering.

Greenwood is a great place to live. We have good people all around us, and I'm a fan of seeing everyone succeed.

I've invested my entire life in Greenwood. I've raised my children here, built my businesses here, and made a lifetime of memories here. I don't regret a single minute of it. Now, I'm simply asking for the opportunity to represent the people I proudly call my neighbors.

I'm not a politician, and I don't try to sound like one. Political talking points have never come naturally to me because that's not how everyday people talk. Truthfully, being mayor was never a lifelong dream or something I planned for. I just want to do what's best for Greenwood as a whole.

I'm not perfect. I won't have every answer, and I'll probably make a few mistakes along the way. When I do, I'll own them, learn from them, and keep moving forward. Serving an entire community isn't easy, but there's nothing more rewarding than solving problems and seeing people's lives improve because of it.

Every voice deserves to be heard, and every problem deserves to be addressed. At the end of the day, I believe the mayor's job is to be a voice for the people. I want to take a Main Street approach to leading our city, listening first, bringing people together, and working toward practical solutions.

Most of you have known me for years. We've done business together. We've attended church together. We've coached ball together. We've held the door for one another, said thank you, and helped each other when times were tough. That's what Greenwood is all about. Every person in this community plays an important role in shaping our city.

I'm always open to criticism, honest conversations, and your opinions. Over the past several weeks, I've shared many of the issues people in our community have told me matter most. But I also want to say this from my own mouth: I think our current mayor is a good man. I've known him for a long time, and I respect him. I shake his hand every time I see him.

Some people want to turn this race into a battle. I don't. Change isn't a bad thing. Different ideas are healthy, and that's how communities continue to grow.

Under Greenwood's form of government, the mayor has limited authority. I can't hire or fire department heads, and I can't run city departments. What I can do is listen to the people, keep my door open, take your concerns to City Council and the city administration, and work alongside them to find the best solutions for Greenwood.

I'm 46 years old, and Greenwood is where I've invested my life. I spend time with people from every walk of life because I believe everyone has something valuable to contribute. At this point in my life, I truly believe God is calling me to serve this community in a different way.

Over the coming weeks, I'll continue sharing my vision for Greenwood's future. I believe we must rebuild trust between our citizens and local government. Public safety must remain our top priority. We need to create opportunities so everyone has the chance to succeed and improve their quality of life.

I'm a problem solver. I'm a strong advocate for improving our community, and I love Greenwood with all my heart. Greenwood isn't a bad place, not even close, but I believe we can always do better. We should never stop striving to improve the place we call home.

I love the people of this community, and I'll continue fighting for what's in the best interest of Greenwood as a whole.

Candidate filing is just around the corner, and November will be here before we know it. Tough issues require honest conversations, but they don't have to divide us. We can disagree respectfully while working toward the same goal: making Greenwood even stronger.

Thank you, Greenwood, and thank you to everyone supporting this campaign. Whether I win or lose this election, I'll continue serving this community any way I can.

Sincerely,

James Long
